Internet access via Mobile phones

Mobile Internet

I came across an interesting conflict of opinions that were made last year by Rick Joubert and Arthur Goldstuck.

It confirms the number of mobile internet users in South Africa – basically, users who can access the internet from their mobile phones.

In Matthew Buckland’s interview with Arthur Goldstuck in February 2008, Goldstuck mentions “Right now, we have about 4-million Internet accessing it via computers, and probably a maximum – optimistically - of 4-million people who have cell phones that would allow them to browse the Web.”

In November last year, 9 months later, Rick Joubert estimates this figure at roughly 9.2 million – that’s double what Goldstuck estimated.

Quite an interesting discrepancy…personally, I’d go with Rick’s figures.

Based on my own experience ,I have never had any time for Goldstuck. I think he is overhyped, over-rated and of little substance

Interesting opinion - I must say that I was pretty surprised at how far out he was… he predicted it would take 5 to 10 years for mobile internet access to pass desktop internet access… and it had probably already happened by quite a margin when he made that comment.
